Grandma Lawson Old Fashioned Stack Cake

1 cup shortening
2/3 cup molasses
1/2 tsp allspices
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 tsp bakingpowder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup sugar
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp cloves
2 eggs, beaten well
1/2 tsp salt
cooked apples


Cream shortening and sugar together. Add dry ingredients to flour and set aside. Add the eggs, molasses and buttermilk to the sugar mixture and mix. Add enough flour mixture to make a dough that can be rolled thin. Cut in rounds the size of cake layers. Bake 375 degrees. Let cool by laying out on clean towells or cooling rack. Stew dried apples and season well with spices. (cinnamond, allspice and sugar) When almost cool, spread on layers, one at a time. Stack the layers. Let season for 8 hours. Then serve.
