Category: bread

3 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 pkg yeast
1 1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup shortening
1 tsp salt
1 egg

In a large mixing bowl combine 1 1/2 cups of the flour, and yeast. In sauce pan heat milk, sugar, salt and shortening just until warm and shortening is melted (115-120 degrees) no hotter. Stir constantly. Add to dry ingredients in mixing bowl and add one egg and beat 1/2 minutes scraping sides of bowl. Beat 3 minutes more at high speed. By hand stir in remaining flour (more or less) enough to make a soft dough. Cover and refrigerate dough at least 2 hours or when needed. (use within 3 to 4 days).About 1 1/2 to 2 hours before serving time shape dough into rolls, butterhorns, cloverleaves etc. I put about 1 T butter in 8 inch pan and melt. Grease or flour hands and pinch off enough dough to make small rolls. Roll in butter and place in pan. Cover and let rise until double in bulk. Bake at 425 degrees until nicely browned.
