Taco Salad

1 head iceberg lettuce
2/3 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic
2 T salid oil
1 lb ground beef
1 can ( 8oz) tomato sauce
2T water
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup bottled French dressing
4 cups corn chips
3 tomatoes, thinly wedged
1/2 cup sliced green onion
ripe black olives
1/2 cup sour cream or
shreded cheese
toco sauce


Core, rinse and thoroughly drain lettuce: chill. Cook onion and garlic in oil until tender crisp. Add beef and brown, drain. Add tomato sauce, water, chili powder and salt. Cook covered over low heat 10 minutes. Finely shred lettuce to measure 6 cups; toss with dressing. On individual plates spread corn chips; top with meat mixture, lettuce, tomato, onion, olives and sour cream. Add toco sauce if desired.
